Chris + Olga…just a peak
September 28, 2009
A few weeks ago I had the privelage of photographing Chris and Olga’s wedding. What a stunning bride….just so beautiful! It was a beautiful lake setting for both the ceremony and the reception. The dj’s name was Randy Pulley. He really did a great job of keeping everybody on the dance floor. The catering was by CateringWorks. The caterers were great and were super friendly. So, more to come, but in the mean time I wanted to share just a few of the happy bride and groom:
Christmas Templates Sold Individually and with Backs
September 28, 2009
The Christmas card templates can now be purchased individually. The 5×7 and 5×5 templates also come with a backside. Many photo labs who offer high quality press printed products give the option of printing a back side. Now you can offer your clients (and I can offer my clients too!) the option to print front and back!
Here are the new backs (shown with the fronts on the Template page):
The Design Pile on Etsy
September 28, 2009
Hello All! I wanted to let you all know that I opened a store called the Design Pile on Etsy. What is The Design Pile, you might ask? My goal for next year is to open an online resource shop for photographers who need some creative help. Just in case you are not familiar with Etsy it is a online store for handmade goods. You can now find my Christmas Card Templates and eventually other templates like birth announcements, save the dates, thanks you on Etsy. Here is how it works. You order the design of the card you want. If you are not using an image that I have taken you will send me the jpg file along with all the other information (names, greetings) that goes on the card. I will then send you a file that you can take to your lab of choice. If you are a client of mine you can just tell me which image(s) you want to be used on the card. I also offer printing services if you don’t want to hassle with that. So, go check and out and let me know what you think. I am open for suggestions and would love to hear your thoughts!
More Steeples for Peoples
September 24, 2009
I have been working on this image for weeks and have finally come to the conclusion that I am done…I think. You know…sometimes you have to live with an image for a while before your are ready to say it is “finished.” I exposed the image using a Lomo Diana camera (medium format fun-ness) and then spent time physically and digitally creating layers and layers and compositing and compositing in Photoshop. The image is of Marsh Swamp Free Will Baptist Church. I exposed the image on Nick and Bethany’s wedding day (see their post). So, this is the art print they will be receiving from their wedding package. All wedding packages come with an art print. It gives me the opportunity to do something unique for each couple from their wedding day.
Christmas 2009 Templates
September 24, 2009
This year’s Christmas photo greeting card collection features some of my own artwork incorporated into the designs. The tree, ornaments, snowflake, stars, and select text are custom made by myself specifically for this year’s collection. Each template is a Photoshop file that includes the layers leaving the template open to customization, meaning you can make adjustments to certain parts of the template. Also included is a video tutorial to make incorporating your images an easy process. Also, most templates (with the exception of the “Christmas on Film” and the “Stripes & Dots”) have more than one background color option. The set includes 2 – 5×5s, 3 – 4×8s, and 2 – 5×7s (with a few extra variations included).
This year’s set is $65. Available for shipment October 1st. If you would like to purchase the set, click on the Templates link at the top of the page. Please contact me at jsmixon06@aol.com if you have any questions. I will be offering these for my clients as well. Clients, keep checking in for the Christmas Card sale!

Caitlin is 1!
September 11, 2009
I went down to Hampstead a few weeks ago to photograph Caitlin for her first birthday. We had a quick photo session before her big party. For those of you who don’t know, as of May, I made the decision not to book family sessions, at least for right now. That doesn’t mean I won’t ever pick it up again. But, for now, I made that decision to give me some time to pursue a few other photographic endeavors. So, right now, I have been photographing those who I had obligations to prior to May 08. It is little clients like Caitlin that made that decision very very difficult. I mean…how cute is she and have you seen her brother Cole? Caitlin has the perfect little cheeks and the such pretty eyes. Anywho…I thought I would share some of Caitlin on her big day:
Bryan + Jessica
September 8, 2009
This is Bryan and Jessica! They are getting married next May! I met up with Bryan and Jessica at Holden Beach for some picture time. I was back at my old old stopping grounds. I used to live within walking distance of this pier. That was quite a while ago. Anway, we were really fortunate that it got a bit cooler before we started, because it had been super hot that weekend. One of the things I kept on noticing while I was editing was Jessica’s eyes. They are such a pretty color and she has long eyelashes to boot! Very pretty!! Well, here are some of my favs from the day: And I’m not sure what is going on with my pics, but they look a bit washed out??? Never happened until just a few days ago on the blog. I’m working on fixing that!
